Nurturing Your Child's Innate Creativity -
Do's and Don'ts of Raising Creative Children

Taught by Steffanie Casperson.
Creativity is what solves problems, finds compromise, brings people together, and builds bridges. Society values creativity - even paying highly for it - because it is needed. It entertains and enriches, and it is a skill that can be developed. So how do we teach creativity? School-age children need a break from memorizing right answers and avoiding wrong ones, to harness their active imaginations and practice creating! The visual and performance arts can be the perfect outlet for children to learn this vital skill. Monday's presentation discusses how art benefits everyone (especially kids), how to add art into their educations (even if parents don't have an artistic background), and how to nurture and foster your child's creativity.
Steffanie Casperson is a homeschooling mother of four and a former professional ballerina. She has also been an advocate for art in schools across Utah: with Ballet West's acclaimed "Ballet West for Children" program, and as a host of "Library Storytimes with a Ballerina" which reached hundreds of households in Cache Valley. Her oldest son, now 16 years old, currently trains with the Boston Ballet and hopes to become a professional dancer. Her older daughter is pursuing a career in Musical Theater and is an accomplished pianist and composer. Her younger daughter wants to be a swimmer. And her youngest son is still in the thick of the homeschool process once called "imagination and play" by his big brother.
